Georg von Frundsberg
Najsłynniejszy jest jego udział w bitwie pod Pawią w roku 1525, w której przyczynił się do pokonania wojsk francuskich i osobistym przykładem zachęcając swoich ludzi do walki.
Georg Frundsberg was the most well known commander of the German landsknechts. He came from the family of the long military traditions. However he was a commander of the new type leading mercenary forces composed mostly of infantry.
His most famous action was at the battle of Pavia in 1525 where he contributed to victory over the French forces and motivated his troops with giving personal example.
Frundsberg despite serving the Empire was known for his dislike for catholic church hierarchy. He was motivating soldiers by carrying a golden rope and saying that one day he will hang a pope with it. Frundsberg died after suffering a stroke when leading landsknechts against Rome, which was later taken and sacked.
