W dniu 12 kwietnia w Londynie odbywał się SALUTE - największy pokaz figurkowych gier strategicznych w Europie.
On 12th of April 2014 SALUTE, the biggest miniatures wargames show and exhibition in Europe, took place in London.
SALUTE odbył się w centrum wystawienniczo-konferencyjnym EXCel, wielkim kompleksie hal wystawowych, w którym równocześnie odbywały się też zapisy na maraton londyński oraz targi domów na wynajem.
SALUTE took place in the EXxCell exhibition-conference centre - enormous complex of exhibition halles paralel with registration for London Marathon and residential housing exhibition.
Statements on greying of the hobby and decreasing interests were prooved to be greatly exaggerated. Thousands visitors had arrived and queue was formed in one of the unused exhibition halls. Despite such a big number of visitors everything went according to plan.
Order was being kept by bounty hunters, Imperial strormtroopers
and Judge Dredd
SALUTE had over 150 traders from various countries. On over 90 tables different rulesets were presented and various games played. Scale of the event was breathtaking, however a friend who had visited last year's salute told me that number of traders had decreased.
First - Polish accent - the Wargamer crew was presenting By fire and Sword (17th Century) on two small boards. It was also selling rulesets in English and their range of figures for Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Sweden, Turkey, Cossacs and Tatars.
Sosna przy pracy. Na stoisku Wargamera znalazły się też wyroby innych polskich producentów, np. firmy Tereny do Gier, a także na przykład modele Zvezdy używane w wargamingu.
Sosna at work. On Wargamer's stand there were also products of other Polish producers such as Tereny do Giet and Zvezda wargaming models.
Zvezda models were this year quite popular as cheap and of decent quality. They were offered on several stands.
Terrains and buildings were very popular. This year modular laser cut buildings were very popular. They tend to push away less handy and heavier resin or plastic models. Several exhibitors presented large constructions fitting 28mm figures (this scale was clearly dominating during SALUTE).
Next group of exhibitors was presenting armour models. On various stands also painted vehicles were offered. Painting quality varied from the very average to real works of art - prices varied too :)
Several curiosities were shown. Vixtrix presented plane models in 1/100 scale that were made using 3D painting. Until now theses are only prototypes but the company plans to use 3D wider.
Warlord Games presented software used in creating projects of figures.
I also had an occasion to have a chat with a painter demonstrating painting techniques on Warlord Games' stand.
Peter Pig (I made large shopping on their stand) was presenting a large range of vehicles and nearly all figures they offer.
They presented i.a. part of their resin Soviet armoured train in 15mm scale.
Next to Peter Pig's stand presentations of Longship rules - Vikings fight Anglo-Saxons - figures 15mm.
Something for the Sci-Fi fans. Hawk Games on their stand presented Dropzone Commander rules and their range of figures by exhibiting enormous landing craft...
With armoured vehicle in every hatch.
