Hiszpanie i Francuzi na przełomie XV i XVI wieku byli czołowymi użykownikami artylerii w Europie.
Spain and France at the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th Century were main users of the artillery in Europe.

W Hiszpanii ten typ broni rozwinął się podczas walk o Grenadę pod koniec XVwieku. Walki te często wiązały się z obleganiem umocnionych przez Maurów miast oraz fortyfikacji. Obronę przeciwnika udało się przełamać w dużej mierze właśnie dzięki masowemu zastosowaniu broni palnej, w tym artylerii.
In Spain this type of wepon developed during fighting for Grenada at the end of the 15th Century. These struggles were often sieges of fortified Moorish cities and outposts. Enemy defence was broken ia. by the wide implementation of firearms including artillery.

Podczas Wojen Włoskich początkowo największym parkiem artyleryjskim dysponowały siły Francuskie. Jednak przybyły do Italii Gonzalo de Cordoba miał również wśród swoich żołnierzy doświadczonych artylerzystów.
At the beginning of the Italian Wars the bigges artillery park was possessed by the French army. However Spanish commander Gonalo de Cordoba when he arrived to Italy had some experienced artillerymen under his command.

Warto pamiętać, że artyleria z początków XVI wieku stała jednak wciąż na niskim poziomie. Dopiero zaczynano ujednolicać kalibry dział. W toku Wojen Włoskich armie uczyły się wykorzystywania artylerii podczas bitew w polu.
It's worth noticing that artillery from the beginning of the 16th Century was still on low technological level. Unification of gun types was just starting. During the Italian Wars armies were learning how to use artillery in field battles.
