Army of Mieszko I nearly finished. Next two elements are a stand of archers and one stand of spearmen.

Według przekazów (prawdopodobnie przesadzonych) Mieszko I dysponował wieloma tysiącami tarczowników.
I've decided that next elements of spearmen will represent "tarczownicy" (shield bearers). They were spearmen having large almond shaped shields. This formation was also paid from ruler's treasury. Such warriors were for example garrisoned in more important burg cities.
According to chronicles (probablyy exagerated) Mieszko I had many thousands of such troops. In reality their number was probably much smaller and the army based on light troops and bowmen together with militia.

These troops have better protective equipment than most of the army. Apart from almond shaped shields two warriors in the middle have also a fabric armour - verry effective even against sword cuts.

Fourth stand of archers. Some people wonder why archers were fielded in early medieval armies. Their arrows were unable to penetrate armour. However chainmail or other kinds of armour were not so common. In case of fighting with cavalry the main target was probably not a warrior but his horse. When knight fell from his mount he became an easy prey for the infantry. Such was the case with German knights during battle of Cedynia in 972.

I still have one stand of spearmen, stand of cavalry and of course a camp to finish this army.
